Mason Pacific Taking Old Lalola Space

Inside Scoop brings word today of a new project, Mason Pacific, headed to Nob Hill from the husband-and-wife team of Jay Thomson and Shannon McTiernan Thomson. Jay Thomson is the CEO of private-equity firm the Murano Group, and his wife has brought on her brother, Sean McTiernan, as the chef. The well-situated glass-walled restaurant space at the top of (where else?) Mason and Pacific was a pharmacy once upon a time, and has had a few previous restaurant tenants, most recently Lalola Bar de Tapas.

McTiernan, who's cooked at Delfina and Rose Pistola as well as Taillevent and Joel Robuchon's La Table in Paris, will curate a global menu of ingredient-driven fare, ranging from rabbit terrine on house-baked levain to strip steak with pickled mushrooms and lemon ponzu. Wine will be a focus, with former RN74 sommelier Eric Railsback curating a list that includes high-end bottles from Thomson's own collection. Copain Wines will also create wines by the carafe especially for the restaurant.

The space is small, with 24 seats, leather banquettes, and a few bar tables; it'll be open for dinner initially, with breakfast and lunch to be added once things are underway. The target for opening is sometime next month.
