Not content to simply have a stand at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market, the gentlemen of Humphry Slocombe have decided to open their second location inside the Ferry Building, in the space that currently houses gelato-makers Ciao Bella. Never one to miss an opportunity to provoke, head ice-cream man Jake Godby tells Inside Scoop that the new expansion is "for people who are still afraid to come to the Mission." He and partner Sean Vahey will keep things pretty much the same as at the Mission original, with all the familiar flavors (and possibly a few Ferry Building exclusives).
The duo won't get the keys to the space until October, but they're working with original shop designer Jane Martin of Shift Design Studio to pre-fabricate the decor in the Dogpatch so that the renovation can be turned around quickly. Longtime followers of Slocombe may remember that the shop initially planned to expand to the 20th and Florida space that houses Trick Dog and Central Kitchen, but eventually backed out; the space they were supposed to have will now be a second location of Sightglass Coffee.
