Nap's III, soon to be Virgil's. [Photo: SFWiki.org]
Nap's III's time on the Bernal/La Lengua karaoke stage may have come to a close, but a new trio has come up to take its place: the triumvirate of Tom Temprano (a.k.a. DJ Carnita of Hard French), Lexington Club owner Lila Thirkield, and former Nickie's bartender Gillian Fitzgerald are teaming up to open Virgil's Sea Room in its stead.
The bar is intended to be a comfortable neighborhood spot for both gay and straight clientele; Hard French and Temprano's DJ nights will remain next door at El Rio. Virgil's will feature a low-key, vintage-inspired design spearheaded by David Marks of Room 4. The original ornate flowered wallpaper, along with plenty of vintage furniture and fixtures, will feature heavily. On the drinks side, the menu will be a step up from a dive bar but still approachable, with offerings like Sazeracs and mojitos. The karaoke machine will return, and they're hoping to retain former owner Nap (now retired) as host.
The plan is to open up as soon as possible, hopefully within the next few weeks. Unfortunately, the patio will take longer, but they're hoping to eventually bring that online as well. We'll have more info as opening day nears.
