THE MISSION—Unbelievably, there is a fourth major opening this weekend: The Palace, Manny Torres Gimenez's takeover of the former Palace Family Steakhouse, is opening tomorrow night, in what may be the fastest turnaround ever. Sadly, opening frenzy meant our photographer couldn't get in, but we'll have Eater Inside photos and a menu come Monday. [EaterWire]
HAIGHT-ASHBURY—It looks like the Upper Haight is getting a new cafe, Laguna Cafe, in the former Poster Shop/Rockin' Java space at 1821 Haight. The owner, Khaled Hegazy, previously owned hookah shop Cairo Nights on Geary, so maybe it'll be Mediterranean? [Uppercasing]
BERNAL HEIGHTS—Sad news at the Rock Candy Snack Shop on Cortland: owner Heather Young needs to take care of her mother, who's been diagnosed with liver cancer, and she's selling the business. [Bernalwood]
OAKLAND—A new coffee shop, Hive Cafe, opened yesterday in the Dimond District. The owners are serving Highwire coffee, Starter Bakery pastries, and housemade sandwiches and salads. They're also planning to make their own icy summer drinks with a granita machine. [Berkeleyside Nosh]
