DIY Brewhouse Headed to Uptown Oakland

We are running out of creative jokes to make about the East Bay beer boom, but the East Bay is not, apparently, running out of beer. The latest project to make its debut is Diving Dog Brewhouse, a new nanobrewery and pub right across the street from the Fox Theater. The bar will both make its own beer under the Diving Dog label and serve 30 taps of outside craft beer, but with an interesting twist: the general public can pay to make their own brew there, then come back later and bottle their creations to take home. Drinkers can bring their own recipes or use one of the brewery's, and equipment and ingredients will all be on-site.

The concept, understandably, is a fresh one for the halls of government, and owner Rob Bailard has been stuck in a permitting mire, but he's currently aiming for an opening in late summer. There will also be bar snacks, but there's no on-site kitchen, so things will probably be pretty basic.
