Mr. Bauer swings back for an official update on Bar Agricole following this spring's departure of chef Brandon Jew, and the news isn't great. The menu, he notes, has gotten a bit too short under the leadership of Jew's sous chef Reina Talanoa, with just six main dishes to choose from and not much diversity. He's kind of appalled by a $24 squid salad, priced confusingly high, that turns out to be the "the most disappointing dish of the evening." But he loves the chilled pea soup and says that his salmon was "beautifully cooked." Cocktail-wise, he says you can still "order anything and know it will be good," and he doesn't mind paying $11 for a drink. They eke out two and a half stars, because he still likes the atmosphere and some of the food, but he says the place has "strayed from its heyday."
