It's been a long time since we talked about Butter, that bridge-and-tunnel-y, white-trash-themed den of decadence on 11th Street catering to people too drunk to dance at the nearby nightclubs. Today we see that Vice paid the place a visit and dubbed it "The Unhealthiest Restaurant in San Francisco." Highlights, for the uninitiated, include Spaghetti-Os, deep-fried mac-and-cheese bits, and drinks like Tiki Trash (coconut rum and fruit punch). This place, opened in 2004 1999, can feel to newcomers like writer Jules Suzdaltsev like a welcome respite from San Francisco's "free-range, vegan, vegi, pesci, locovore, halal, kosher, organic, all natural, probiotic, low carb, no carb, fat free, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, soy free, soy, antioxidant, agave, raw nonsense being passed off as food."
Also of note, Butter was featured earlier this year on the Travel Channel's Feed the Feast. Host Mikey Roe meets chef Benny Hillbilly (yep), who shows him how he defrosts a frozen, pre-packaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich, deep-fries it, and then covers it in chocolate syrup, gummy bears, and whip cream. Check out the full menu here, if you're still reading.
