EAST BAY—Oakland has gotten three new bakeries this year: Sweet Bar, Barkada, and Fournee. So it only seemed right for the EBX to compare their croissants, and Sweet Bar's plain and Barkada's chocolate versions came out on top. [EBX]

OAKLAND—Tragedy struck last night at the Lake Merritt location of chicken chain Wingstop, when two employees, Jose Santa Maria and Kenneth Bradley, were murdered in a shooting. OPD has two suspects in custody. [Chron]

THE MISSION—Cerveceria de MateVeza is now serving three beers based on cocktails: a Fernet and Coke, an Arnold Palmer (not really a cocktail, but still sounds tasty), and a revival of a favorite: Rich Higgins' outstanding Big Lebowski White Prussian, which hasn't been available since he left Social Kitchen & Brewery.
