225 Bush St., Financial District
Phone: (415) 788-7011
Status: Opened yesterday
The Financial District has a new third-wave coffee spot in Coffee Cultures, which is the first SF coffee shop exclusively dedicated to the well-regarded North Carolina roaster Counter Culture. In addition to the usual lineup of espresso drinks, Coffee Cultures features Five Mountains tea, Bay chai, and in a unique move for a coffee shop, Straus frozen yogurt. Anna Roth of the SF Weekly stopped by yesterday, and while she found it pricey ($4/cup, plus extra for toppings), she enjoyed the tangy plain and housemade Guittard chocolate flavors, as well as her "well-made" espresso.
Coffee Cultures is owned by Jason Paul, who used to work for Coffee Bar, and the decor is pure of-the-moment SF, with reclaimed wood walls, Edison bulbs, and a small retail component selling coffee beans and tea. They've also got a permit for sidewalk seating in the works. Hours are 6 am-6 pm, Monday-Friday.
