DOGPATCH—Beloved lunch window Kitchenette said back in May that they were shutting down temporarily, but the closure is now permanent: Living Room Events, the catering company from which they sprung, has moved, and partner Douglas Monsalud is now cooking at Pixar. He says he's still considering a restaurant of his own. [Tablehopper]

WEST OAKLAND—Long considered a "food desert," West Oakland is taking a big step forward with Freedom Farmer's Market, which will appear Saturdays beginning August 31. As an added bonus, it supports black farmers who grow sustainable food. If you want to help, there's an Indiegogo campaign. [EBX]
