Sparrow Bar Opens; Headlands Brewing Launches

HAIGHT-ASHBURY—Tonight is opening night for Sparrow Bar & Kitchen in the former Bia's space in the Haight. They wouldn't let us come by to interview them until next week, so all we can offer is the details from before, and a few new ones from Uppercasing (including a discount). [Uppercasing]

THE MISSION/SOMAHeadlands Brewing Company, the new brewery from Patrick Horn (Pacific Brewing Laboratory), Phil Cutti (Southpaw BBQ), and Inna Volynskaya (Lagunitas), is about ready to make its SF debut. They'll kick off with a launch dinner at Southpaw tonight, featuring their three new beers: Point Bonita Rustic Lager, Hill 88 Double IPA, and Groupe G Belgian RyePA. Can't make dinner? They'll also have a City Beer Store sipping session next Tuesday at 3 pm. [Zagat, EaterWire]

MARINA—The Long Now Salon project at Fort Mason just got a big boost: author Neil Gaiman (Coraline, The Sandman, American Gods) just gave them $25,000 towards building their cafe. They're a little under halfway to their $495K goal. [EaterWire]

UNION SQUARE—Planning a same-sex wedding in the wake of the DOMA and Prop 8 defeat? Consider getting a cake from openly gay chef Yigit Pura of Tout Sweet Patisserie, who's offering 20% off cakes for same-sex couples and straight allies through August 31.
