The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is deliberating today over whether to grant an injunction against California's newly-enacted shark-fin ban. The Feds have filed an amicus brief claiming that the law "obstructs the use of fishery resources lawfully obtained in federal waters." The Chinatown Neighborhood Association and Asian Americans for Political Advancement sued the state last year over the ban, saying it amounted to cultural discrimination for banning the traditional Chinese dish of shark-fin soup.
