Legendary drag queen Heklina and consultant Geoff Benjamin have had their proposal to take over the former Paradise Lounge rejected, according to the Bay Area Reporter. The duo, along with two other partners, had hoped to create a 125-seat cabaret theater for weeknights and revive their famed Trannyshack events on weekends. Though they had the support of Supervisor Scott Weiner and Entertainment Commissioner Glendon Hyde, the building's owner decided to lease the space to a still-undisclosed other group. "I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and not think it was homophobia," says Heklina, who's still seeking a new space. [BAR]
