Daniel Patterson's Alta CA is due in mid-Market later this fall, but the Coi, Haven, and Plum impresario has remained silent until now on who'd be running the kitchen. Now, as Tablehopper reports, he's found his man: Yoni Levy, the chef de cuisine of Flora in Oakland. Levy, who worked with recently appointed Plum chef Kim Alter when she staged at Chicago's Blackbird, was introduced to Patterson by Alter, and now that he's been selected for the gig, is lending a hand at Haven as he develops dishes for Alta CA's menu.
Levy, who's also cooked at One Market and Lula Cafe in Chicago, tells Tablehopper that he's planning on cooking up "big bowls of beautiful food that will make you feel good about what you ate," so diners can plan on seeing more grains and vegetables and less meat and butter on their plates. Alta CA will serve lunch, dinner, and bar snacks, as well as offer a late-night menu, and Levy's developing them all. The bar manager who'll provide the cocktail accompaniments is still in the works, and the project is expected to arrive in November or December.
