Mid-Market gentrification is barely a phenomenon, yet it's already claimed its first victim: adorable dive Hot Spot, which held down the once-gritty 10th and Market corridor for ages, now has its windows boarded up and no one answering the phone (despite its typical 11 am opening time). Its shot/beer/scratch-off lottery ticket combo, one of the best deals around, appears to be no more. And considering it's right next door to smallish Alta CA, we'd place good odds that Daniel Patterson is pondering knocking down a wall right now. Update: A tipster sends along this Instagram photo, which says that the bar is closed for renovations and will reopen in mid-February. [EaterWire]
