Three Twins, Back in the Lower Haight

Status: Softly open

It's been over two years since neighborhood scoop shop Three Twins closed up shop after sustaining damage in the Haight and Fillmore fire that displaced dozens of residents. But through the spot could've easily stayed shuttered for good, owner Neal Gottleib kept his word to reopen in the shop's original space. Today, those dreams become a reality as Three Twins throws open its doors once again.

As is to be expected, this isn't quite the ice cream shop of yore: gone is the eye-popping green of the exterior paint job, for one thing. But some improvements inside make up for the loss. Where the scoop case previously had room for just 8 flavors, it now has space for 12, including favorites like sea salted caramel, mint confetti and strawberry je ne sais quoi, plus at least one vegan flavor.

Ice cream sandwiches have appeared as a new Three Twins offering, with flavors like vanilla bean on chocolate chip cookie and salted caramel on sugar cookie. And of course, there's the trusty selection of take-home pints, featuring a full complement of flavors like Sergio Romo's special Mexican chocolate.

The shop softly opened this afternoon, but look out for a grand opening in the near future. For the moment, opening hours are Monday through Friday, 11am to 10pm, and Saturday and Sunday 11am to 11pm.
