UPPER HAIGHT—The Alembic's renovation continues to drag on, but the bar still isn't opening up about when it'll be finished and its food component will reopen. They're apparently in the final stages of expanding the kitchen, but the front seating area expansion has yet to be addressed. [Hoodline]
MISSION—Taylor Peck, owner of the Fizzary, is apparently getting some harsh feedback for his ubiquitous presence on billboards campaigning against the proposed soda tax. On a recent Saturday, "a singlet-and-kimono-attired patron from the nearby bar El Rio came into the Fizzary and cussed Peck out." For his part, Peck says his frustration with the possible tax is about the bottom line. "Under the banner of preventing childhood obesity, we would be eternally plaguing all beverage consumers with a substantial tax." [SF Mag]
PRESIDIO—Chouffe Fest, a celebration of beers made by the Belgian brewery of the same name, goes down tomorrow night at the Presidio log cabin. Expect beer tastings, live music, and paired bites, all for a very affordable $10. They're also offering $5 off UberPOOL rides to the party with code CHOUFFEFEST. [EaterWire]
MISSION—Illy Coffee is partying at the NWBLK all day on Friday, with coffee, food trucks, snacks from Craftsman & Wolves, and even coffee cocktails, plus street art aplenty. More info here. [EaterWire]
