SF drag legends Heklina and D'Arcy Drollinger have been in the market for a place of their own for a while, with a proposal to take over the (still-vacant) Paradise Lounge rejected. But now, after some major zoning hassles, the duo have finally secured the former Caliente Club right across the street (298 11th Street), which has been closed for more than five years. As Tablehopper reports, they're taking the space back to its roots as the Oasis, along with partners Geoff Benjamin and Jason Beebout.
While the Oasis will host the occasional standard nightclub/promoter events, its main focus will be drag and performance events, with a little theater on the side. Performers from around the globe will visit, and with 6,000 square feet, the crowd have plenty of room to cheer them on.
In keeping with the space's original vibe, Heklina & co. are working on a Moroccan theme, including a second room, the Fez Room, that has its own bar. The goal is to open up on New Year's Eve, and they're already selling VIP tickets to the party, as well as Founders' Club passes, for those looking to get in on the ground floor.
