The new southern-fried sequel to the beloved brunch at Brenda's French Soul Food will open in the former BlueJay Cafe space by this weekend, assuming all the final touches come together, lady Tablehopper reports.
Brenda's Meat & Three, as it's called, will be feature a more broadly southern menu than Brenda Buenviaje's original home for crawfish beignets. Dinner options will focus on the "meat and three sides" in the name, with meaty dishes like fried chicken, ribs, oxtail, and fried catfish getting paired with with 15 different sides, with some indulgent down-home style. Expect things like bacon fat fries, smothered green beans and creamed biscuits, as well as a couple veggie and vegetarian options. Lunch will offer blue plate specials along with some brunch-like items making use of Brenda's famous biscuits.
The new spot enjoys the beer and wine license that is still intact from BlueJay Cafe, as well as a criminally underused patio out back. While former owners André and Jennifer Larzul remain part-owners of the new incarnation, Buenviaje and wife Libby Truesdale are now the majority partners.
