Urban Picnic Plotting Third Location in SOMA

The Vietnamese-influenced spot is joining Red Dog and Fearless at 303 2nd Street.

Urban Picnic is pretty much unstoppable. Just three months after opening their second location in the Castro, the FiDi lunchtime favorite is going back to their roots with another downtown outpost, in the plaza at 303 2nd Street that also houses Red Dog and Fearless. At 1,500 square feet, it'll be a bit smaller than the other Urban Picnic locations, with a handful of tables; Zero Ten Design will once again be behind the decor. The menu will be the same as that of the other Urban Picnic locations, with healthy, Vietnamese-influenced fare like banh mi, kale and quinoa salad, and rice bowls. Whole-grain porridge, egg wraps, and Equator coffee will be offered in the morning.

The plan is for Urban Picnic to debut by the middle of October; once it opens, hours will be weekdays, 7:30 am-4 pm. If demand is high, owner Trang Nguyen says she'll onsider staying open later at night and on weekends; the restaurant also hopes to provide catering to the numerous nearby tech offices.
