A Top Chef alum, Thompson worked as a chef in Napa Valley for several years prior to opening her first restaurant in San Francisco; Thompson was in talks with the Warwick for over a year before inking the deal that opened Aveline and accompanying bar, The European. The restaurant secured a two star review from Michael Bauer last fall.

UPDATE: The SF Chronicle spoke with Thompson, who cited irreconcilable differences with the Warwick Hotel as the reason for her departure from Aveline. Says Thompson of her short-lived relationship, "It just wasn’t the right fit. For them, for me."
The restaurant itself may live on with a new concept and new name, according to Thompson, but she does not know of current plans by the hotel. She does plan to take the name Aveline with her, "... ‘Aveline’ is mine. It’s a combination of my grandmothers’ names. I will take that with me."
