Espressamente Illy has been on a tear through SF in recent years, with local operator Joe Gurdock opening two branches of the cafe concept from the Italian coffee conglomerate in the Financial District and the Castro. Gurdock has now set his sights on a third Illy: this one will go into the restored Metro Theater building at Union and Webster, which is also home to an Equinox gym. Like the other outposts, it'll feature light fare like panini and salads developed by famed chef Joyce Goldstein, as well as a full selection of coffee, espresso, and Semifreddi's pastries.
The 49-seat cafe will clock in at 1,600 square feet, with a mixture of lounge and table seating, and the signature chandelier made from Illy espresso cups. And it'll arrive in short order: it's set to open next Monday, November 24.
