That sound you hear is San Francisco's techies collectively passing out from excitement, as Brewcade opens its doors in the Castro today. Inspired by the grand tradition of arcade bars, the second project from Blackbird owners Shawn Vergara and Tiffny Vergara Chung boasts 24 vintage arcade machines (the full list is below), offering a selection of over 50 games (many are combo machines). All your old friends are here: Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Street Fighter, Tetris, Space Invaders, and more, mostly for 50 cents a shot.
To attract those interested in more than one type of quarters, Brewcade also boasts a 25-draft-strong craft beer selection from Monk's Kettle alum Kai Villegas, including standbys like Racer 5 and Duvel, and some rotating selections from Fort Point, Linden Street, Henhouse, North Coast, Heretic, and other top locals. The Fizzary is offering a selection of artisanal soda pop, from Cheerwine to Dad's Blue Cream, and there's a "munchies bar" with CC Made caramel corn, Krave jerky, chicharrones, mixed nuts, and other snacks. For those who want to fuel up to get the high score, cold-brewed Stumptown coffee is also on tap.
The arcade game selection will rotate frequently; game master Bob Albritton has the full 40-machine lineup from his now-closed Starbase Arcade in San Rafael, and will trade out and service the old-school machines regularly as needed. Hours are Monday-Friday, 3 pm-2 am, and Saturday-Sunday, 2 pm-2 am.
