It may reemerge elsewhere.

After five years in the Fillmore, Gussie's Chicken and Waffles has closed up shop. The storefront is shuttered, and the restaurant's phone is disconnected; Gussie's has no email address available online, and has been silent on Facebook and Twitter for months, so there was no way to confirm the closure. However, multiple reports on Yelp say that they plan to reopen at an undisclosed location in Oakland, with one adding that issues with flooding were an impetus for the move. (The recent rains can't have helped on that score.)

Founded by Michele Wilson, who helped open the first NorCal branch of L.A.'s famed Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles, Gussie's gained recognition for its quality yardbird and quirky offerings like red velvet waffles when it opened back in 2009. Stay tuned for more intel on the restaurant's possible move to the East Bay, and what might be next for its space.
