Bauer himself raised an interesting question on his blog today: given that most restaurants are now adding 2-4% Healthy SF surcharges to their bills, is it best to tip on the bill before or after the additional charge? Some argue that since the surcharge directly benefits employees, it's fine not to count it in tip calculations, while others say that the indignities of working in the service industry are enough to merit a few measly extra bucks. Bauer's reader poll is currently 55% to 45% in favor of no-surcharge tips. [Inside Scoop]
