Dynamic duo Dennis Leary (The Sentinel, Golden West, House of Shields) and Eric Passetti had a busy 2013, with the openings of Trocadero Club and Cafe Terminus earning them a coveted Empire Builder of the Year prize the 2013 Eater Awards. Now, the pair are teaming up again for a third bar: Natoma Cabana, which will take the long-sought former John Colins space on Natoma. A onetime blacksmith shop, the space has a mini-warehouse feel, with high ceilings, large skylights and a bright, airy vibe which Leary wants to emphasize with a casual, beer-garden-like approach.
"We want to make it like an outdoor party without going over the top," says Leary, who is looking to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the SOMA warehouse clubs of the '80s and '90s. Drinks will likely be playful and quaffable, like you'd drink at a backyard party, and the atmosphere will be similarly loose. Mostly, Leary says the goal is to create a fun, unpretentious spot without too many bells and whistles. With just a light buildout expected, look for this one to debut in time for the summer months.
