The Tenderloin/Nob Hill/Union Square nexus is quickly becoming home to the city's biggest beer destinations, with last year's Golden Gate Tap Room (449 Powell St.) and Mikkeller (34 Mason St.) recently joined by Hopwater Distribution (850 Bush St.). Now, Tablehopper has word that another taproom is on the way, this one at Hyde and California in Nob Hill proper.
Called Liquid Gold, the new spot comes from owner Tim Lee, who is transforming a former bookstore into a new beer and wine bar with a forthcoming retail wine element. Lee plans to offer thirty local craft beers on draft, and will have small-production wines flowing, too. An L-shaped bar, communal table and high-top tables will provide seating for about 45, and once Lee secures an elusive off-sale beer license he'll begin selling take-home beer as well as wine from a retail space in back. Construction is set to begin soon and Liquid Gold is targeting a May opening date, so get ready to add this one to your craft beer pub crawl list soon.
