Though the northern half of Dolores Park is currently being razed, there is new life in the area in the form of Bebebar, a Brazilian-inspired juice spot on 18th Street. Located in the former Jeffrey's Natural Pet Foods space next-door to Cervecería de MateVeza, the project is a mother-daughter effort by Mission locals Celinha and Lya Moreira.

The airy and bright space has been completely redone, with new wood floors, walls, bathrooms and more, plus colorful ceiling lamps designed by Regine Pfanz. The process was a community effort, says Lya, who notes that her mother has been wanting to open her own spot for almost ten years. On the menu is a selection of made-to-order fresh juices ($4.95-$6.95), from the Lila (pear, apple, spinach, mint) to the Nora (carrot, apple, lemon, ginger), plus smoothies like the Emilia (açaí, berry medley, yogurt, banana, coconut water).

Also on offer are Nucha empanadas, plus a soon-to-come menu of açaí bowls that will include combinations like açaí, banana, guaraná and granola. And for a special Brazilian treat, there's the "Brazilian cappuccino," a ubiquitous drink in Brazil that's made up of Nescafe, powdered milk and chocolate powder (Lya says that it might be an acquired taste for American coffee drinkers).

Once things get into full swing, Bebebar will offer grab-and-go healthy eats like sandwiches and salads, making it another go-to for Dolores Park snacking. For now, they're open 10am to 6pm daily, with the possibility of expanded hours in the future.
