Cantina Verde, Healthy Mexican in the FiDi

Cantina Verde
398 Market St., Financial District
Status: Open

Fans mourning the passing of the shuttered Del Taco now have another, albeit more healthy, Mexican option in the neighborhood with the opening of Cantina Verde. A quick-serve breakfast and lunch spot with a fresh take on Chipotle-esque fare, Cantina Verde opened its doors late last month to service nearby office workers.

The focus is on budget- and waistline-friendly fare, with a simple menu that includes burritos, three tacos, salads or bowls for a $6.50 base price. Choose a filling from a list that includes carne asada, carnitas, grilled chicken, grilled and roasted veggies or braised tofu. Then, customize it as you please with rice and beans, dairy, salsas and produce (think mushrooms, grilled squash, grilled peppers and onions). Healthier options like whole-wheat tortillas, egg-white breakfast burritos and sliced avocados set Cantina Verde apart from the more traditional Mexican options in the area, making it a destination for anyone concerned about weight gain from their sedentary office job.
