Rocko's Ice Cream Tacos, a unique dessert cart that's been a presence at Off the Grid Fort Mason for over a year, is now taking its tacos on the road with a new food truck to better serve the greater Bay Area. Owner Lori Phillips is behind the project, which elevates the throwback Choco Taco concept with local, organic ingredients and a freeze-to-order liquid nitrogen system.
Phillips sources her ice cream base from Three Twins, adding her own flavors like pumpkin and pistachio to more classic flavors like strawberry, chocolate and salty caramel. To make the taco, she fills crescent-shaped waffle cone to order, then dips it into a choice of peanut butter or dark, milk or white chocolate before using liquid nitrogen to flash-freeze the taco. It's all designed to be whimsical and fun, but with the added bonus of well-sourced ingredients and the opportunity for playful flavor combinations (one new favorite is salty caramel ice cream with a peanut butter dip, for instance). The new truck debuted last week: follow Rocko's on Twitter for info on when they'll be coming your way next.
