The death of numerous gay bars, especially outside the Castro, has been a sad recurring story in SF, but happily, it looks like uptown Oakland is once again making room for the priced-out. The Port Bar, from life and work partners Richard Fuentes and Sean Sullivan, will move in next door to the Paramount Theater pending city approval, turning the 2,000-square-foot space into an industrial space with unisex bathrooms built from a shipping container. It's intended to serve as a casual, non-dance-centric gathering place that's friendly to straights as well. [Chron]
