Castagna, Refined and Reopened in the Marina

Castagna
2015 Chestnut St., Marina
Phone: (415) 440-4290
Website: castagnasf.com
Status: Opening today

A year after an electrical fire caused Castagna to close its doors for repairs, the Marina French restaurant is back on track with a more refined vibe and revamped menu. Reopening today, Castagna now features expanded banquette seating, modern lighting fixtures, and wood and stone accents that convey the restaurant's more upscale bistro focus.

Sibling co-owners Jerome Meloni (GM) and Stephane Meloni (chef) have elevated the restaurant's food offering, zoning in in the area of their French hometown of Nice and giving their menu a Provençal, Côte d'Azur and Italian Riviera focus. Appetizers now include a variety of crostinis and charcuterie, plus bites like deep-fried squash blossoms and flambéed tiger prawns. Chilean seabass, Niçois-style beef stew and Steak Béarnaise à la Provençale fill out the entrees, and a new weekend brunch will features eggs Benedict, quiches, crêpes and more, plus drinks like mimosas and white wine with crème de cassis. (See the new menus here.)

Starting today, the reborn Castagna will be open for dinner from 5-9:30/10pm Tuesday-Sunday, with a Tuesday-Friday happy hour from 4-6pm. Weekend brunch will begin at 10:30am and run all the way to 5pm, giving late-risers a chance to get in on the action.
