Privacy activists are less than thrilled about an apparently longstanding policy of Philz Coffee: using a service called Euclid, the burgeoning Bay Area chain has been scanning and tracking the cell phones of every patron who's passed through its doors since 2012. While Philz says the data can't be tied to any individual user and is only intended to help them figure out ideal seating layouts and hours, a rep for the Electronic Frontier Foundation counters that the data obfuscation doesn't actually work, and the info can be easily passed to advertisers.
