The Balboa Cafe might be better-known for its drunk Marina crowd and Louboutin assault record than its history, but nonetheless, Bauer decided to check out the 101-year-old space as part of a series on classic SF restaurants. The result: "The worst food I've had this year," including a "barely edible" burger with cold fries, crab cakes that "tasted like soggy crackers flecked with red pepper," and poached eggs that ended up hard-cooked.
