From mac and cheese burritos to burgers with donut buns, the Bay Area has never met a food gimmick it didn't eagerly embrace. So it's not surprising that we were chosen for a visit from the Frankenfood truck, which is serving up crazy dishes from the Spike TV show of the same name (premiering on Sunday at 10 pm), in which chefs Josh Capon and Tony Luke Jr. sample bizarre combo concoctions from home chefs competing to win $10K. The lineup is predictably bizarre: chicken tenders crusted in Fruity Pebbles, fried mac and cheese balls with Slim Jim pieces inside, Spam sushi with a plantain puree, and an espresso-crusted chicken taco with marshmallow wasabi sauce and kimchi. Want to sample the wares? It's in town for this week only, so mark your calendar.
Here's the truck's schedule (food is free, too):
Tuesday, 6pm-12am: Folsom Street Foundry, 1425 Folsom Street, SF
Wednesday, 11am-2pm: Electronic Arts, 209 Redwood Shores Parkway, Redwood Shores
Thursday, 11am–2pm: DeVry University, 6600 Dumbarton Circle, Fremont
Friday, 11am-2pm: Airbnb, 888 Brannan St., SF
