Quince Doing Art-Inspired Pop-Up During Renovations

Last week, Quince announced that it'd be taking a summer break beginning on July 25th to do some serious renovations to its interior, which will involve shaking up both the decor and the menus. While casual sister restaurant Cotogna will remain open, that leaves a gap for Michael and Lindsay Tusk to ply their fine-dining trade. So the couple have decided to do a five-week residency, entitled curATE, housed in Jackson Square neighbor Hedge Gallery. Designer Stanlee Gatti will transform Hedge's display space into a fancy dining room, with each week bringing artwork curated by a different local gallery, and a menu to match.

July 30-August 2
Curator: Jeffrey Fraenkel, Fraenkel Gallery
Art: Nine works that play upon the theme of scale in photography, including pieces by Richard Avedon, Adam Fuss, Idris Khan, Richard Misrach, Richard Learoyd, Irving Penn, and Hiroshi Sugimoto.
Dishes: Kumomoto Oyster with Monterey Bay Kelp, Sour Apple and Lemon Verbena; Big Eye Tuna with Watermelon, Shiso, and Dragon's Egg Cucumber; Santa Barbara Sea Urchin Risotto with Samphire Sea Bean and Passion Fruit; Smoked Sonoma Liberty Duck with Riso Nero, Black Garlic and Scallion; Pluot with Sesame, Aloe, Lime and Peanut.

August 6-9
Curator: Anthony Meier, Anthony Meier Fine Arts
Art: An exhibit on deconstruction and the artistic process, featuring Sarah Cain, John Chamberlain, Michael DeLucia, Leonardo Drew, Tony Feher, Kate Shepherd, Tam Van Tran and Michael Wetzel.
Dishes: Deconstructed shrimp cocktail, Waldorf salad, steak and eggs, spaghetti and meatballs, and peach Melba.

August 13-16
Curator: Jessica Silverman, Jessica Silverman Gallery
Art: "White Is the Warmest Color," an exhibit of white and/or minimally colored works, featuring Amikam Toren, Christopher Badger, Hugh Scott-Douglas, Luke Butler, Ruairiadh O'Connell, Sean Raspet, Shannon Finley, and Tammy Rae Carland.
Dishes: An all-white menu of White Gazpacho with Spot Prawn, Almond and Cucumber; White Peach Salad with Buttermilk, Fennel and Tarragon; Acquerello Carnaroli Risotto Bianco with Chanterelle Mushroom, Extra Vecchio Balsamico, Vacca Rossa Parmigiano Reggiano; Dover Sole with Fumet Blanc and Dirty Girl Farm Cauliflower; and Vacherin with Yogurt, White Raspberry, Basil and Coconut.

August 20-21
Curator: John Berggruen, John Berggruen Gallery
Art: A sampler platter of everything the gallery does, including work from Robert Bechtle, Christopher Brown, Michael Gregory, Tom McKinley, Damien Hirst, Richard Serra, and Joel Shapiro.
Dishes: A celebration of iconic Bay Area farms and farmers. Menu includes Riverdog Farm Tri Colore Tomato Soup with Cucumber, Torpedo Onion, and Lemon Basil; Peter Martinelli's Summer Harvest with Zucchini and Their Blossoms, Jimmy Nardello Pepper and Eggplant; Acquerello Carnaroli Risotto with Mariquita Farm Beets, Gorgonzola and Nasturtium; Monkfish with Tierra Farm Shelling Beans, Broccoli Di Ciccio and Nepitella; and Frog Hollow Cal Red Peach with Elderflower and Fromage Blanc.

August 27-30
Curator: Iwona Tenzing, Tenzing Asian Arts
Art: Rare Buddhist sculptures and artwork from the 13th through 17th centuries, curated to represent the "pathway to enlightenment."
Dishes: An Eastern-inspired menu. Himalayan Salt Cured Halibut with Green Zebra Tomato and Fino Verde Basil; Summer Vegetable Salad with Puffed Barley, Achar and Green Chile; Carrot Bisque with Madras Curry, Yogurt and Tibetan Flat Bread; Za'atar Spiced Lamb with Fairytail Eggplant, Pine Nut and Blistered Peppers; and Koshikari Rice with Ginger, Lime Leaf and Passion Fruit.

curATE will operate Wednesdays-Saturdays, with a 7:30 pm dinner seating and 6:30 pm reception each night. You can attend just the reception, with wine and canapes, for $50, or enjoy the reception and a five-course tasting menu for $199 (wine pairings $110 extra). All prices include tax and tip.
