The Marina has a cool new bistro on its hands in Causwells, which opens today in the former Bechelli's space on Chestnut. Helmed by restaurant veterans Alvin Garcia (Delarosa, Lolinda, Don Pisto's) and Tom Patella (California Wine Merchant), it's intended to be a casual neighborhood gathering place, with upscale food and wine courtesy of former Flour + Water sous Adam Rosenblum, a CIA-trained chef who's cooked with the likes of Donald Link. And its location, adjacent to the Presidio Theater, will definitely make it a destination for movie dates.

Rosenblum, like many local chefs, is focusing on making as much as he can in-house, including bread, ricotta, salumi, and smoked meats. The comfort-food menu reads like a playlist of recent local trends: deviled eggs, beef tartare, grilled octopus, fresh-baked Parker House rolls, brisket, and of course, a burger. And of course, it's focused on a progression of small to large plates for sharing. For dessert, there's donut bread pudding, using day-old donuts from neighboring All Star. Here's the full dinner menu, and the dessert menu.

On the drinks side, Patella has curated a list of 20 value-centric wines by the glass, most of them American, with an emphasis on small-production vintners. Bartender Erin Vogel is curating the beer lineup with Garcia. Here's the opening wine menu, and the beer menu.

The 66-seat restaurant was designed by the Bon Vivants' design-build arm, and takes its cues from Art Deco, including a front panel designed to resemble the colors and geometry of the Golden Gate Bridge. Inside, you'll find lamps made from the bases of Bechellis' old bar stools, lots of teak benches, and concrete walls ripped to the studs that are definitely reminiscent of Trick Dog's. Hours are 4 pm-1 am daily; the plan is to introduce lunch and brunch within two weeks, with lunch 11 am-4 pm and brunch 9 am-4 pm.
