Grocery-shopping startup Instacart is definitely taking the lead in terms of pleasing local food dorks. After adding on Rainbow Grocery a few months ago, they've announced that beginning today, they'll be delivering from Bi-Rite Market as well. That means that Bi-Rite fans can have pints of Salted Caramel, organic produce, French wine, and exotic cheeses all delivered to their door by "personal shoppers" who hand-troll the aisles and deliver the goods in an hour or less. Instacart says they won't mark up any of Bi-Rite's prices, outside of their standard $6 delivery fee for orders of $35 or more. (If you're willing to wait two hours or schedule in advance, the fee goes down to $4.) To prevent an overabundance of traffic in its tiny aisles, Bi-Rite will only deliver from the larger Divis location to start, with plans to expand to the Mission location if all goes well.
