The latest destination on the Bauer old-school train is Alfred's Steakhouse, which has been around in one incarnation or another since 1928. Bauer digs the "retro prices" ($11 for double-dose cocktails, $32-38 for steaks) and the "intense smoky flavor" of the mesquite-grilled meat. Skip the "dry" Oysters Rockefeller and stick with the "classic" shrimp Louis, then have the "really good" chocolate sundae for dessert. "Steak houses, by their very nature, are kind of retro, so at Alfred's, the ambience and food feel right." [Inside Scoop]
