Though the location was revealed back in October of last year, progress on Brandon Jew's upcoming Chinatown restaurant, which would replace longtime Chinese spot Four Seas, has been slow. Now, we know why: the Chronicle reports that after a drawn-out negotiation that took 10 months, the talented former Bar Agricole chef has finally inked a lease for the 731 Grant Street space.
Four Seas will vacate the address in November, and Jew's work will begin in earnest as he seeks investors and begins a 100-seat buildout, courtesy of Boor Bridges Architecture. The space has two levels, and he's planning to reserve the upstairs for banquets. Jew also announced that the restaurant will be called Mister Jiu, in honor of the pre-immigration spelling of his family name. Slated to open in mid-2015, the restaurant is still a ways out, but Jew is currently working on putting a seasonal, fresh spin in Chinese cuisine in anticipation of the restaurant's debut.
