Bauer's Top 100 Contenders; Sarvi In, Tikka Masala Out

BAY AREA—The last Chron Top 100 list was only released a few months ago, but Bauer already has nine different places that he thinks are strong contenders for this year's list. Combine that with all the openings still set to go down this year, and he may have to expand to a Top 150. [Inside Scoop]

UPPER HAIGHT—The embattled former Tikka Masala space on Haight has finally turned over—to become another Indian restaurant. It's called Sarvi, and it's now officially open, with a $7 lunch buffet. [Hoodline]

MISSION—Mission slice joint SF Pizza may be on its way out, to become, you guessed it, more condos. Turns out you can squeeze nearly 200 units out of a pizzeria and a parking lot. [SF Business Times]

SOMA—In the wake of yesterday's release of the Bon Appetit Top 10 New Restaurants in America, here's a chat with Andrew Knowlton, the guy who makes it. He cites Saison as an example of fine dining still being alive and well: "I think there are many, many ways to dine, and that's really what makes 2014 special: whether it's a food truck, or a market, or a place that 'really isn't a restaurant.'"
