Almost immediately after its December 2012 opening, Ramen Shop became one of Oakland's toughest tickets, with folks lining up for a slurp of Jerry Jaksich, Rayneil De Guzman, and Sam White's unconventional noodles (not to mention the delicious cocktails from the bar). As a result, Ramen Shop's wait times can easily top 90 minutes, and the partners want to make that process easier. Tablehopper reports that they've acquired the former luggage store next door, and are planning to knock down the wall to make a bigger Ramen Shop.
Instead of adding more tables in the new space, however, Ramen Shop will turn it into a bar, serving up cocktails and a few bites to patrons as they wait for their tables in the main room. The current bar will become dining space, allowing 15 more spots for eating and transferring the cocktail-related clogs in the main room over to the other side. The kitchen will also get some more breathing room, which will allow Ramen Shop to stay open seven nights a week; they're considering adding weekend lunch as well. Expect the new addition to start construction in October, and open its doors in late winter or early spring of next year.
