SF continues to dominate in the FiveThirtyEight burrito bracket, as La Taqueria advanced yesterday into the Final Four. La Taq's carnitas burrito clocked a 95/100 in the second round (a decrease from its first-round score of 98, due to "a slight disappointment" in construction that produced too many "meat-exclusive bites").
With that said, it's still the favorite to win it all against some tough competition: the Bronx's Taqueria Tlaxcalli, which clocked a 92, and L.A.'s Al & Bea's Mexican Food, which earned a 94. The fourth competitor is still TBD, but it will most likely end up being another SF favorite, Taqueria Cancun, which upset El Farolito with a 94 in the first round. With other competitors scoring a paltry 80 and 79, its only real competition for making the Final Four is El Paso's Delicious Mexican Eatery, still behind it with a 92. If Cancun holds its water in the second and third round, the finals could quite easily be Cancun versus La Taq, which is sure to bring out some serious rice vs. no-rice partisanship. We'll continue to update you on the bracket's progress.
