Castro Escape From New York Closing After 30 Years

Local pizza mini-chain Escape from New York is losing a member, as the Castro location has announced it will be shutting down this Wednesday, September 17. As Hoodline reports, the restaurant is citing costs associated with renovating the space and upgrading its ovens, as well as providing employees with healthcare once the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate kicks in next year. The pizzeria's other five locations will remain in business, and former customers are encouraged to order delivery from the Haight and Mission locations instead. But pizza lovers won't have to turn away from the shop entirely: a new pizzeria, Oz, will be taking EFNY's place, and they're inviting the restaurant's current employees to stick around.
