Mochica, Carlos Altamirano's Peruvian-fusion favorite in SOMA, ended its ten-year run back in March. (It was replaced by Anar, a Persian restaurant.) But as he promised back when Mochica shuttered, Altamirano is roaring back with an even bigger space: he'll be taking over Potrero Hill's former Rocketfish to turn it into Mochica 2.0. Altamirano, who's also behind Bernal Heights' Piqueo's, Michelin-beloved La Costanera in Montara, and the Sanguchon food trucks, plans to offer a similar menu to the original Mochica at the new location (think anticuchos, ceviches, and paella), with one big addition—a full bar, including Peruvian-inspired cocktails. The new Mochica should arrive in mid-October, and it's not the only item on Altamirano's to-do list: he's also plotting a new restaurant, Parada, in Walnut Creek, and an unnamed project that will be part of the ongoing Emeryville Public Market revamp.
