Food & Wine has long been known for its highly prestigious Best New Chefs prize, and it's expanding its reach this year with the introduction of a new category, Best New Bars. 100 bars across America were nominated for the longlist this year, including a whopping five from San Francisco: ABV, Coqueta's Bar 5, Dirty Habit, Trick Dog, and Trou Normand. ("New" is apparently a relative term, since ABV is only a few months old, while Trick Dog opened in January 2013.) The local contingent will go head-to-head with such major players as NYC's Booker & Dax and The NoMad, Austin's Qui, Chicago's Billy Sunday, and more. Each of five U.S. regions will have a "People's Best New Bar" selected by readers; you can vote for your favorite of the SF bars in the poll through September 30th. Stay tuned for the announcement of both the editorial and the popular vote winners.
