Maven Team Opening Mid-Market Bar & Music Venue

Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio is unquestionably the most fun new bar name of this and many other years, which is to be expected from the follow-up from the talented team behind the Lower Haight's Maven. As Hoodline reports, Maven's Jay Bordeleau chose the name to represent the space's two emphases: stiff drinks and good tunes. Bordeleau, a trained musician himself, will offer a jazz-heavy nightly musical program, with some allowances for funk, blues, swing, and Latin music. On the cocktail side, the drinks will be boozier and more spirit-forward than Maven's; it's unclear whether Maven bar manager/partner Kate Bolton will be working on them.

Bordeleau chose the location at 39 Fell for its perch right between the emerging mid-Market corridor and Hayes Valley; he'll be open until 2 am, with the hopes of serving both the regular bar-going crowd and the post-show scene from SFJAZZ and Civic Center's cultural attractions. it was a homeless drop-in center until 2008, then hosted offices for a time before spending the last few years vacant. Gi Paoletti, Maven's designer, will be doing the new space as well. With a lengthy buildout planned, Bordeleau expects Mr. Tipple's to make its debut in June 2015. We'll have more details on the project, including whether or not it will offer food, as they land.
