Ice-cream sandwiches are hotter than ever in SF right now, and just in time for Indian summer, Swich has made its debut in the Sunset (2045 Irving St., at 20th). The customizable ice-cream sandwich shop is the brainchild of SF natives, friends, and baking aficionados Kristen Lee and Sandy Lam, who left their corporate jobs to pursue the ice-cream dream. They're offering five flavors of cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, red velvet, butterscotch, and gluten-free walnut fudge), four varieties of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and mint), and dippable toppings (sprinkles, sliced almonds, coconut), which customers can mix and match to their heart's content. If ice cream doesn't appeal, there are also mini-jars of homemade pudding (chocolate and butterscotch) or tapioca with grapefruit puree, as well as pour-over coffee.

Though they just debuted this weekend, Lee and Lam hope to amp up Swich's menu over time, offering savory panini, special seasonal cookies (like pumpkin spice and eggnog), and more flavors of ice cream. They've got a handful of tables and some bar seating for enjoying your sandwich, as well as free wi-fi. Hours are still being hashed out, but the current plan is for Swich to be open from 11 am-10 pm Sunday-Thursday, and 11 am-12 am Friday and Saturday.
