Rumors have long bubbled about a Tartine Bakery expansion to NYC or even London, but for its first project outside SF, the iconic bakery is going to Japan. As Inside Scoop reports, founder Chad Robertson plans to open a location of Tartine in Tokyo next year, which will be located next to a craft brewery and share its grains with the brewers. He'll be working alongside Think Green Produce, a Japanese company, to make it happen, and hopes to get it open by next April. Japanese staff have already been training at Tartine in SF, and head baker Lori Oyamada will spend a few months in Japan getting the bakery open. It's the latest in a chain of SF-to-Tokyo expansions that have also included A16 and a forthcoming Blue Bottle cafe; Tartine is also working on an expanded bakery and restaurant in the Heath Ceramics building in the Mission, expected to arrive next year.
