The new year always brings restaurant closures, and one apparently went under the radar for a few weeks: Mescolanza, the 27-year-old Italian restaurant in the Outer Richmond, called it quits at year's end. "Mescolanza appreciates your support for the past 27 years, unfortunately we will have to relocate," said owner Ruben Macedo in a statement on the restaurant's website. "December 31, 2014 will be our last day at this address." Macedo and his wife Maria have been running Mescolanza since 1998; he's been with the restaurant since the beginning, having joined in 1987 as a pizza cook. It's unclear what the culprit is in the closure, but a rent hike seems likely. We've reached out to the Macedos and will update with any news of a new location.
